A lady friend has Cingular and mentioned as of a few weeks ago, the ability
to delete a VM midstream and move on to the next is no longer available.
Has the keypress changed to something else?

Thanks!!

Q: Is there any way to delete a message without listening to it?
A: Yes, press 77.  This will delete the message you are listening to
and move to the next one.

In my area (Philly), that has changed from 77 to 33. (A single press of 3
deletes a message after having listened to it).

That's the old Cingular GSM voicemail system.  My understanding is that you'll
eventually be changed over to the newer system, inherited from ATTWS, which is
77.

Except that from 2002 to late 2004 it *was* 77. And then, without warning,
it changed to what is apparently an older system. Perhaps due to the rapid
expansion they shifted some existing customers to older systems? I do
remember that this change was concurrent with my voicemail suddenly not
working anymore.

I just press 3 and it is deleted.

According to my Cingular buds, they're decommissioning all blue VM
systems, while simultaneously upgrading orange platforms to increase
capacity for the combination of the two (purple).  Apparently, the newer
bigger systems have different control functions, and getting switched
from one to another can happen at anytime.  Maybe, some day, they could
list the control functions in service contracts so everyone will have a
valid complaint when that changes without prior notice.
