The Cingular GSM/GPRS dual band handheld Preffered Nation map looks pretty
sparse but I was told that contracts were in place to provide GMS/GPRS
coverage accross the nation by using other carrier systems.

I would appreciate comments from non GAIT phone users on actual coverage
using only a GMS/GPRS 850/1900mHz. handset like the new Nokia 3595.

There are roaming contracts in place and they are depicted on the maps,
Cingular has the biggest GSM network out there right now. What the
Preferred maps show is all the coverage you will get. I've used the
Nokia 6590i(1900/850), I would recommend a GAIT phone if you ever travel
into rural or hilly terrain since GSM does not penatrate as well as
TDMA, even with GSM 850. Example: eastern KY is depicted to have GSM 850
coverage and it is extremely spotty and non-existent in hilly terrain.
