I read on here that tethering (I think you guys call it)(Connecting
phone and laptop by Bluetooth or USB Cable) is no longer allowed wit
Cingular MediaNet.  I also read that it still works though, just no
sanctioned by Cingular.

So whats the low-down.  Will it still work?  Are they planning o
implenting some  kind of lock to stop it?

I am going to be wanting to do this come February (via Bluetooth an
using Unlimited MediaNet for $19.99)  WIll I have problems, and if s
is there a cheat around it or I am stuck buying a PC Card and th
$59.99 Laptop Connect?

Also if I am stuck with the expensive option are there Bluetooth card
for Laptop Connect or just PCMCIA?

Finally, I heard the new faster system and cards are coming out?  When

Cingular states in the Terms Of Service (TOS) that you are not allowed to
use MediaNet for tethered use. That said, tethering does work and the
general impression seems to be that Cingular is not actively tracking people
down who do tether their PC using MediaNet. It is your choice as how you
move forward. You can risk being cut off, or moved to another plan, if you
go with MediaNet, or you can sign up for one of the more expensive plans.

How do you tether?  I used to do it on my S56 with a command something
like *99**2# or something for GPRS.  It no longer works and cingular
won't assist me with it.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks...

It GPRS works on the handset, then it should work "tethered."  The correct
"phone number" for your *default* GPRS profile is simply "*99#" -- the
additional "**2" would only be needed to select an explicit profile when you
have more than one.

What error are you getting?
Can your PC run Modem Diagnostics successfully?
Have you tried the Cingular Connection Manager?

Just what you wrote.

Who knows (outside of Cingular management)?  The company has reserved the
right to switch you to an 'appropriate' package (e.g., Data Connect), which
could result in much higher costs.

Who knows what will be available then?  That Data Connect promotional price is
stated as being good only through the end of the year.

Bluetooth handsets or PCMCIA cards.

>Finally, I heard the new faster system and cards are coming out?  When?

UMTS is already available in a number of markets, but only available on Data
Connect packages.  HSDPA should be available in 15-20 markets by the end of
the year, initially just as a PCMCIA option, and will probably likewise be
available only with a Data Connect package.
