How to set V3 to ignore calls?

G'day all.  A quick question, is it possible to set a RAZR to ignore all
calls that are from numbers that aren't in the PB?

I don't care about folks that I don't know, calling me.  They can leave a
message and I'll get back to 'em later...if I feel like it.  But if there's
a way to set that, I've not been able to figure it out...

TIA,
Dusty

AFAIK there is no way to do that.

I was of course referring to the V3 (note the subject of the thread), not the
V551.

AFAIK the Security -> Restrict Calls feature of the V551 simply restricts
incoming or outgoing calls, which isn't what the OP is asking for.  Is there
something else I've missed?

Oops -- cancel that -- I stand corrected.  I hadn't actually checked the
options, and now that I have, I see you are correct.  Thanks for the tip.

What I did for a while was set my default ringbone to SILENT...So unless
they were in the phonebook with an assigned ringbone I never heard the phone
ring or vibrate.

Ah, ha!  So that's it.  Thanks for the tip.  I'll be fooling around with it
to see what I can see...

I had thought that "SILENT" was global, and would override any ring
election.  That being not the case, how would one silence the phone if one
went into the theater, for instance...(short of turning it off)...?

Not a idea solution, but I set my ringer for any Caller ID
non-recognized phone numbers to silent mode and the ones in my list to a
loud ring.

I'm amazed that reading the answers to your posts. Every cell phone I've
owned had/has the ability to block calls from phones not listed in the
address book. I have a new V551 and can tell it to ignore any cal not in my
address book, it's under the security menu. did motorola leave it out on
the razr?

I'm equally amazed, since I've never seen such a feature in any of the phones
I've owned.  Which ones have you owned?

John, et. al.,

There is an option under "Security" on the V551 that seems to indicate
allowing only calls in the address book.  Looks like it can be applied to
either inbound or outbound calls.  Never noticed it before.

None of my Sprint phones could do it and haven't been on Cingular for
five years.

The manuals are so poor, it's hard to say if this is on the v3 or not.
The feature is on my Motorola v551.  I've never used it.

Settings - Security - Restrict Calls - default code is 1234
Incoming Calls - Allow: all, none, address book.

According to Cingular forums, this doesn't block a caller that does not
provide caller ID.  "Private" will still ring on your phone.

in every cell phone I've owned they have had an option under Security
titled restrict calls. one of them "incoming call, allow, Address book."
only lets the phone ring to calls that are in the address book. If it's not
in the v3, motorola made a big screw up omitting it

Yep.  Looks that way.  I'll be the first to admit that I've not
figured out all of the bells & whistles in the durn thang.  But that
kind of "simple", "ordinary", "typical" functionality seems to be
missing.  I guess it was far more important to get all of those
media connections and other "important" features into it...never
mind that it's still a phone.  And folks use it to call others...
<big sigh!>

Sometimes I'm beginning to feel like the technology is passing me
by...never a good thing to feel when one likes to think that they're
in and involved with the leading edge of "stuff"... <bigger sigh!>

Thanks anyway for your help, "cyberwasp"...

Best brace yourself.  The next six months are really exciting times for
technology releases.

Else, you might want to consider 'cocooning' like my sister in Las Vegas.
They chose the arts of technology they like as per HDTV, Internet, online
gaming, music downloads; discarded all else like cell phones, GPS, MIDI,
etc.

Heres a way to do it... I have no idea why it works but I found this o
another forum while searching and my g/f tried it on her RAZR and i
works...

Go to phonebook, click the menu button and go to add a new #, go to th
field to add a new phone number and press the menu button... it shoul
give you an option to add a pause ("p")... the p is the only thing yo
want in the phone number field dont add anything else... you can the
set the name of that entry to "Private Number" or "Don't Answer" o
whatever else you would like... then set the ringtone for this entry t
SILENT...

should work just fine...

Also worth noting if you don't have the option to make individua
ringtones for your entries it is because you are saving the entrie
onto the SIM card rather than the phone... to fix this just save th
entry onto the phone and you will have all the personalized setting
for each phone number available to you (such as ringtone, picture, etc

Very interesting, "minig0d".  I'm gong to have to fool with that and
give it a try...

Thanks!
