Why would you want to?  If all you want is a PDA, then get just a PDA!

Buyer beware... aprox 1 month ago a class action lawsuit was file
against Palm One/ Treo regarding the Treo 650

Yet another frivolous class action, that will only serve to enrich lawyers at
the expense of consumers.  [sigh]

The claims are not completely without merit.  I have a Treo 650, and
while I don't think it's the piece of crap the suite makes it out to
be, I have had, and still do, suffer +some+ of the issues outlined in
the filing.

Specifically, phone and Palm software and hardware crashes with the
original ROM, the 1.15-CNG update and, to a lesser extent, the current
1.17-CNG update.

Yesterday, I missed two calls, one of which cost me several extra hours
of work today because I missed it.  The first call, the phone never
rang, but claimed I missed a call.  The second, and the one that cost
me time as a result, apparently went straight to voice mail, and I
never got the voicemail notification.  Yes, I had sufficient signal
strength within Cingular's native GSM coverage area.

Additionally, this is technically my +fourth+ 650.  Within three weeks
of purchase, last June, I had to exchange the Treo with Cingular due to
what was diagnosed as a hardware defect.  The store clerk pulled one
off the shelf, it had the same problem so he pulled another off the
shelf, and it had the same problem, so he pulled a third (and his last
one in-stock) off the shelf, and that's the one I wound up with.

And, the camera is a piece of crap.  Not because of the low resolution,
but because it has really crappy image quality.

But still... I do not regret getting the Treo, and I do not consider
myself as a part of the class in that suite.

Read the fine print.  I very much doubt you can get one for that little
unless you also get a cellular contract for it.

JAW - 02 Dec 2005 11:58 GMT
Yes, it will work as a PDA and yes it works without a sim. You will need a
sim (with the right service) to access internet items.

yeah you shouldnt have to use it as a phone if you dont want to..
the treo 600 didnt need a sim to use it, if you do you can get one for cheap
and just put it in.
