7-Eleven PrePaid Service?

Thread rating: |
Fred - 04 Dec 2005 13:42 GMT I read an article that says 7-Eleven stores have the best PrePaid plan out there. It's hard to dispute that. Twenty cents a minute on all cards, one year expiration on all cards, voice mail & all that stuff, and uses the Cingular network, no roaming charges, etc.. One thing I haven't been able to find out is if you have to buy refill cards at a 7-Eleven store or can you get them at service stations and & other locations as with most cards and also if the have an 800 to refill with. Can anyone answer that question for me? Does anyone have any experience with their service?
Thanks... Fred

There are roaming chargers, off the Cingular network.
Fred - 04 Dec 2005 17:56 GMT Scratch that. Thanks.

I have a phone with 7-11 Speak-Out, and I thought that I'd never be roaming off Cingular, because the Cingular network is better than the T-Mobile network in the SF Bay Area. But actually, the phone roams onto T-Mobile quite often, which was surprising to me. So the 7-11 plan is good for an occasional use phone, but not a good choice for a frequent use phone. And of course in many areas, Cingular has no presence at all, so you'll be roaming all the time, should you visit those areas.

And of course in many areas, Cingular has no presence at all, >so you'll be roaming all the time, should you visit those areas. Nonsense. Cingular has use of the T-Mobile network (which used to be the Cingular network) here in the Bay Area, and has excellent coverage nationwide.

Not really an issue in most areas since the Cingular network has such broad coverage. Fred - 04 Dec 2005 21:05 GMT You know, I went to 7-Eleven's site & it really turned me off. I saw no place to ask them a general question. Only a complaint or compliment for a particular store, and you had to pick the exact store and address. I then figured I would call them but the only number I could find was a toll call, not an 800 number!

Just call CS from your cell (611, if I recall correctly) and use a credit card. Sorry for the antispam inconvenience.

Fred - 06 Dec 2005 03:04 GMT That's not the point. To me, that says something about a companies philosophy of customer service.

Fred - 06 Dec 2005 13:21 GMT You're very right. Every company has to choose, at least to one degree or another (as Cingular has proven).

John Navas - 06 Dec 2005 15:32 GMT Just as every customer has to choose, and those that choose on price alone don't really have much of a complaint about the service.

Fred - 07 Dec 2005 02:56 GMT I agree with you 100% John. If someone expects bargain basement prices they'd better be prepared for bargain basement service.

Oops, of course I meant there are roaming _charges_ off the Cingular network. And you _will_ roam, depending on your area. This can be good or bad, i.e. when you're in a Cingular area, but in a Cingular dead spot, you roam even if you'd rather just have "No Service." This is unlike some carriers that don't allow roaming in areas where they have coverage, even if the subscriber is in a dead spot.
The phone shows in the display when you're roaming, and you pay 39¢ per minute. Actually this is a very fair roaming charge, considering that some other prepaid plans are charging an _additional_ 99¢ per minute for roaming.
I haven't used the phone in areas where Cingular isn't one of the GSM networks, so I can't comment on which networks it will or will not roam onto.
Fred - 07 Dec 2005 02:53 GMT Yes, that sounds fair to me as long as the phone lets you know when you are roaming.

Well you may not be paying attention to the phone for incoming calls, but yes, it does display whether it's roaming or not.
