Relatively new Samsung X427M. I put phone book entries in the SIM,
stored by name. Under each name, an icon for home, work and the
number.
Two problems with this approach.
1. All numbers were stored in the SIM. Recently, all icons changed to
the mobile icon. One may edit the name or number, but NOT the icon.
One must delete and re-enter the entry to get the "right" icon back.
2. When you get an incoming call, it displays the name from the phone
book. If you have 3 numbers stored under "smith", you cannot discern
from which of the 3 numbers the call came.
2.a. If they leave a voice mail, then you can discern the number, but
otherwise, you must guess as to which of the 3 numbers to call back.
Cingular's customer non-service says this "loss of icon" is pretty
common when numbers are stored in the SIM.
So, I will do as I should have done. Each entry is separate and made
up like this
Smith H
Smith W
Smith M
Where H=Home, W=Work, M=Mobile
Forget the icons. Plus, I will then know from which location Smith has
called me if I miss the call.
Looks like I will be getting the cable and software so I may do this
from the computer this time through.
What a headache. Yet another GSM / SIM subtle "Gotcha". From what CS
says, if you store the number in the phone memory this doesn't happen.
But I wanted to use the SIM, so as not to have to go through and
re-enter numbers at the next phone change.

yea, our x427's do the same thing. Cin CS denied it but I verified the
problem by playing around with the phone book. btw - DataPilot makes a nice
sync software, you can find discount coupons in some major PC magazines if
you look.
