I have a landline phone that I would like to port to Cingular. I would
like the landline number to replace one of the phones on my Cingular
account. In other words, after porting, my landline would be
cancelled, and the cell phone would ring to the ported landline number.
The phone on my Cingular account that I would like the ported number
applied to is already active.
Customer service tells me it is impossible to do this. They say that
changing the number would de-activate the SIM card, and wouldn't work.
They said I can always add another line of service, and then I could
port the number that way.
Do I just need to ask another rep? I just can't believe that it is
impossible to change the phone number on a SIM card.

If i do not mistake SIM cars information only once like CD-Rom can be
written on it, so you must get a new SIM card with a new phone number on it.

Cingular just ported my daughter's land line to one of her phones, no sim
change either.

I use the Rule of Threes with Cingular, calling back twice to verify anything
I hear on the first call. It's a little extra hassle, but has been invaluable
in getting past bad information on the first call. First tier phone reps
don't seem to be getting thorough training, and some of them seem to have a
bad habit of making things up.

Reiteration, how many times do you have to post your "Rule of Threes"?

As many times as relevant.
Reiteration, how many times do people have to post the same silly questions?
