When my x497 is in the open position, the ringtone volume is minimized. When
the phone is closed, the volume stays at high where I set it. Samsung says
this is working as designed, wtf? If the phone rings when it is open you
cannot hear it at all!

Does anyone know of a rick to set the ringtone to high volume always,
especially when it is flipped open? The one basic setting is overridden when
the phone is flipped open, and the vol is on min when the phone is open. I
am missing calls when I have the phone is in my car holder, this sux!

Thanx,

I'm not using a car holder but same issue. It's because the earpiece
speaker is used for the ring tone. If you had it to your hear, and it
rang, you'd get a LOUD sound in your ear.. they don't want that.

...? so explain why if I accidentally press the side volume bar on the phone
it will blast a ring tone in my ear? doesnt make sense. (& just for
reference, my old x427 would maintain the ringtone volume when open, why
change it?)

Perhaps because of complaints.

Indeed.  This is why it's nice to have a 2nd speaker on the back of the phone
for ringing (and speakerphone), like the Motorola V551.

For a ringer, yes, but having the speakerphone speaker on the back seems
bizarre.  I feel like I should turn the phone over so the speaker is
pointed at me, or close it, like an old Nextel i500.

The technical advantage of having the speakerphone on the back is that it
reduces the feedback coupling between speaker and mic.  There is also no risk
of having a speakerphone blast in your ear.
