Yes. As long as it is a compatable phone.

Yes, HOWEVER, be aware that if you are expecting any rebates from
Amazon, then you should NOT port a number into that account until the
rebate has been received. For some reason, Amazon has a strange quirk
in that your mail-in rebates will invalidated if you change or port the
phone number that your Cingular phone came activated with. If you port
or change numbers before the rebate check is mailed, you WILL lose the
rebate.
This appears to be a quirk exclusive only to when Amazon sells Cingular
phones. Not sure why this is, but it is in the fine print for Amazon's
Cingular rebates.

BestBuy would not allow me to port my AT&T GoPhone number to Cingular
when I took advantage of their free phone promotion on a 2-year
subscription.

Update
I signed up with Cingular last night and the porting of both phones was
seamless. Everything was complete and working within 1 hour. Also, CS in
the Cingular store was excellent, BellSouth rep also cut me a nice deal on
the two landlines I have. Now I did walk in knowing exactly what plan and
phones I wanted and was out of the store in about 30 minutes.
FYI to those looking at the BB 8700c
If you plan to buy this on Amazon, you cannot take advantage of the rebate
AND port a number over. Of course you could wait for the rebate to clear
(as someone mentioned) then port but the rebate process can take 2-3 months.
Not worth it IMHO.

AT&T GoPhone is considered a prepaid number and the number belongs to
the carrier therefore the reason you couldn't port the number. Any
prepaid number is not eligible to port.

last week i ported my callplus number to gobeyond (took 5
days), and the phone even got a new ota update, replacing
att with cingular. but it still don't work at the house ;-)
but i have it to use while in the few strong tdma sig
areas until they turn out the lites (or a mom & pop offers
local service) or the new att takes over and restores the
old towers. love it...
