The Motorola V551 offers EDGE class 4 and bluetooth, along with a typical
WAP browser.
Free Opera Mini runs on the V551, giving a well-featured html experience.
I like Opera Mini so much that I want to pay for ongoing server side
support. It is a client server model, currently with some free server
providing pre-processing of web pages. I don't want that to go away from
lack of funding.

"Go to Phone & Device Support".
doesn't allow you to search for features, but it does let you look at the
specs for individual phones.

Thanks for the info! What speeds can I expect on my laptop whe
connecting to EDGE through bluetooth?
I want to be able to play online games on the go, would the EDG
provide a good enough connect to play online?
TIA

I see 30Kbps in GPRS areas, 90-100Kbps in EDGE areas.

I think not. The latency would kill you, not so much the speed.

Likewise the V557, a minor update to the V551 that has replaced it in the
Cingular lineup.

The Motorola V551 is Edge Class 6 - 2U/3D/ GPRS Class 10, so a little
faster than the V551.

You mean V557 is EGPRS(EDGE) Class 6, but that's no faster than Class 4 on
downlink, only on uplink, and then at the expense of some downlink speed.

A Motorola V557 (EDGE+bluetooth)... connected to a laptop (with a
bluetooth dongle) running FireFox!

Then you are screwed, because I don't know if ANY standalone Cingular
phones has "full HTML support".
