Right now I have a Sprint multi-line plan with several phones in the
918 (Tulsa) area code and one phone in the 626 (Los Angeles) area
code. Sprint had no problem setting up this arrangement.
Now, I'm thinking of migrating some of these lines to Cingular.
However, I'm somewhat shocked by what Cingular's customer service (and
their port center) is telling me: Cingular does not support multi-line
plans with phones "in different markets". In other words, apparently I
can't have a multi-line plan with one phone in the 918 area code and a
second phone in 626. Instead, I would have to setup two *different*
accounts, one in each market!
Does this sound right?
Thanks in advance for any info/guidance y'all can provide!

That's Cingular's story, and they're sticking to it.

Sprint had no problem supporting two of my phone in two different
markets, but Cingular can't or won't do it. They suggested getting a new
accout in the other market, to which I said that would double my cost
for service.
I ended up deciding to make both phones in my local market. The other
phone wil have an area code different from the city its in, but that's
not a problem as I'm the only one that calls that phone.
On the down side...I ordered two replacement free SIM cards from the
Cingular Relocation Department and paid $14 for priority shipping (24-48
hours). I placed the order Monday evening, received a confirmation email
Tuesday morning for only ONE SIM to be shipped and immdediately called
for the second SIM. First SIM arrived Wednesday evening via UPS...but no
sign of the second SIM which was shipped at no cost to me as it should
have been shipped with the first one. Its now Friday evening and still
no second SIM.

Don't see why you can't. I have 4 phones. Two on the 700 minute family plan
and the other two as 9.99/month extensions. One of the two on the family
plan is in one area code and the other 3 are on another. The one on the
different area code is even the base phone for the account. Could be that
the base phone has been around since Cellular one and the 3 numbers where
covered under ATT and stayed when I "converted" to Cingular.
Could be tho that I was switched to CIngular because I had an issue while
still under ATT that could only be resolved with new phones that could only
happen by going to Cingular. 900 phone calls up the ladder and they finally
switched it all for free.
