Service in the SW area of FL has degraded down to almost unuseable for our
family who has the Family plan. Cingular says they are doing work on it but
it has been 3 months of calls dropping, heavy static and fade-outs. Very
dissapointed in Cingular right now, tired of excuses. Anyone else having
similar issues in FL?

Your title says SE and post says SW.  Might want to clarify. And if its GSM
or TDMA or analog since you mention "Static" which is not quite possible in
digital.

But GSM in SE Florida has been nearly rock solid. In fact a few months ago,
call drops were high but improved considerably now.

I find my Cingular GSM service in SW FL to be plagued with LOTS of fade
outs and garbled calls. My dropped calls are very minimal, provided that I
power cycle my phone regularly. Not that I believe that I should have to
regularly "power cycle" my phone as a remedy for anything.  I wonder how
much of this is my  moto V551, and how much is Cingular?

Terrible up in Gainesville also.  They are working on it.  It was much
better with AT&T (even GSM).  One would have to deduce that when Cingular is
trying to change the towers over they are running into unplanned on
"issues".

My V551 is working well in the Ocala-Dunnellon area for both voice and
data.

Do you travel I-75 between Ocala & Gainesville much?

From Dec 15 '05 to Jan 1 '06, normal service of three bars dropped to
two-none at my home between Dallas and Ft Worth.

Jan 01 '06, service was and has remained five bars. Maybe it's something
affiliated with the upgrade to HSDPA. You can hope for the best for a short
period.

Sorry for the typo, thats what I get for posting when asleep. Definately
meant SE Florida, ie: Orlando to Palm Beach. Reception and service has been
crappy and a gamble with each call.

After having terrible connectivity since the first week in November, the
problem has finally been fixed........I cancelled Cingular.  I switched to
Verizon.  So far, So good.

I tried to stay with Cingular until they work thru their issues, but I gave
up.  A couple Saturdays ago, my parents who are in their seventies called me
3 times because they needed my help.  The phone calls went directly to Voice
Mail.  My phone did not reflect this until 6:30 AM Sunday morning after I
was at work.  Everything turned out OK, but that was the last straw!  By
Monday evening Cingular was out, and Verizon was in.
