Almost always when I tried to reply to an email using versamail (Cingular) I
get the following error message:

"5505.7.1
<emailaddress@abc.com> ...Relaying denied. IP name lookup dailed
[10.196.182.168] "

Any idea what it means?

Thanks in advance. Bob

Sounds like the SMTP server you are using to reply
is not configured to accept email from your 'from' email
address.  It's to help prevent people from using that
server to send spam.  You either need to change
your 'from' address or your SMTP server.

A common cause of that error is authentication failure in the outgoing SMTP
server, which may be caused by incorrect email settings, or by using an
invalid From email address.

Thanks guys.  The outgoing is Cingular's default.  I'll contact them.

Likely then you'd need to use a return email address of
something@cingular.net in order to use their SMTP server.
The alternative is if the address you use is one that you use
at home, check out the SMTP server you use at home and
change the SMTP server settings to use that server instead.

Not necessarily -- I just tested my own domain (which isn't @cingular.com),
and had no problem sending email with the two Cingular SMTP servers listed in
the FAQ.  I suspect this is a problem with reverse lookup of the From domain.
