cingular is both TDMA (IS-136) and GSM. Their original GSM 1900 areas
are California, Nevada, Washington state (formerly CA/NV were Pac
Bell), North Carolina, South Carolina, and eastern Tennessee. Other
cingular areas are now TDMA (IS-136) but are in process of overlaying
with 800/850 GSM.
She swears she doesn't have a SIM card probably because she's in a
TDMA (IS-136) area. cingular is a mixed technology company and even
most of the time they won't admit it or even don't know it. (Don't
ask a mall kiosk droid.)
