opera mini browser is free and has 128 bit encryption SSL ... http://www.opera.com to download it to your computer and install it via USB wire or BT or else they will SMS it directly installed to your fone!!
I just installed it on a Motorola v557 and it doesn't seem to work.
"You do not have a working network connection. Please visit
http://help.opera.com/mini with your desktop browser for instructions."
But I do have a working network connection. I can use the built in WAP
browser, IMAP mail, AIM, and even tether to a laptop through Bluetooth.
I've read most of the forum posts on the Opera web site and couldn't
find anything specific to a V557 on Cingular. Anyone have any
suggestions?

If I'd read just a little bit farther on the Opera site I'd have found
the answer:
Turn off the news ticker.
Yep. That's all.

Correction, turn off the news ticker and reboot the phone.

Hadn't heard that before. Cool!
