I need to upgrade to a Treo but in the last 6 months, I upgraded to a
new phone (the Sony z520A-- a GREAT phone, now that it is
replaced....see other threads for THAT one).
My question is can I use the upgrade available on my wife's phone
number (in a family plan) and simply put MY simcard into the treo that
I get on her account ? Is it that easy ?

The only issue that you may have is getting the rebate, as the rebate is
tied to adding the PDA connect package to the number you upgrade, and you
will be adding that to a different number.

Couldn't I play with the sim card and put the new one in the treo until
the rebate got processed and then switch them out ?
It might actually be a three way switch -- I might add a line for my
daughter with the treo, give my wife my phone, my daughter her phone
and me the treo!
Is this too many moving pieces?

It won't be "that easy" if there is a data plan involved. You will need to
figure out a step-wise progression towards your goal, so that each customer
service request involves only a single change. Cingular cannot handle a
double-jump.
