When Cingular lists an area as Future Coverage on a GSM coverage map,
Generally how long is it before that market goes GSM? New Orleans, and
most of the state of Louisiana is now highlighted green on the new GSM
nation calling maps
you can look here

S/nation_GSM_map_6_30_03.htm
Should I be looking at getting a new phone sometime soon or do you think
it might take longer?

Unless you are a burning techie that has to have the latest gadget out, or
there is some really compelling reason to go GSM (I can't think of a single
reason) then I wouldn't change. One of two things may happen that you might
then concider changing. (1) Your contract runs out and you want to look at
other options OR (2) your phone dies and you need to replace it.

Is that map really reliable? It has Tallahassee, FL listed as a GSM area
when in fact the Tallahassee phone section of the website doesn't have GSM
phones.

From what I've seen in the past, the time frame would be roughly 6-18 months.
