I am on Preferred Nation 350, at 39.99/month.  I have a friend who has a
 Motorola v60i, who bought to activate on Verizon, but cannot.  I am
still in contract, and I want to add a second line.  Would I have to
extend my contract if the secondary phone was paid for in full (at
retail price)?  Also, do most taxes double with 2 phones?  I can handle
a one-time activation fee, but if I need to extend my contract, I'd
rather just get an additional phone from a different provider (for the
advantage of different roaming agreements).  I tend to be working most
of the day, so it's hard to call Cingular.  As soon as I get a chance,
I'll call and see.

I am in the Orlando, Florida market.

1. I'm assuming the V60i is a TDMA.  If there is a CDMA version (which
would let it work with Verizon), that version would not work with
Cingular.

2. Some fees would double (E911 Fee, etc, etc.)  Taxes would increase
based on the additional amount, which should be far less than double.

3. Activation fee would be $18 for a Family Talk line.  (Here in the
northeast, at least.)  The new phone can be activated on a
month-to-month basis, with no contract obligation.  (I checked with
Cingular Credit & Activations.)

4. If the Family Talk is considered a plan change (I, personally, think
it would not be), there may be a request to sign a 1-year agreement, if
you have less than 1 year left on your current agreement.  That would
extend one year from the signing date (not 1 year from the current end
date), and would not affect upgrade eligibility.

Thanks for the info.  The v60i is a TDMA phone and that is why it cannot
be activated with Verizon.  I have an idea of what to expect when I
actually get a chance to call them.
