Cingular Blue and want a Razor V3i

I'm an ex ATTWS customer that now has Cingular.  I believe that makes me
what is called a Cingular Blue customer.

I would like to upgrade to a new Motorola Razor V3i phone, mainly for the
Bluetooth and the removable memory card.

If I put the blue ATTWS Sim card from my existing cell phone (a Nokia 6200)
in a new unlocked Motorola Razor V3i, will everything work as it has in my
current cell phone?
RobR - 19 Apr 2006 05:22 GMT
The V3i is quad-band, so as long as it's unlocked, yes your
current SIM will work.  I had to reread your post a couple of times
to understand why you were using a blue SIM but it sounds
like you were just migrated over when ATTWS was absorbed.
You didn't actually go to Cingular and say you wanted to
move over to orange.

Yes, you are correct.  I had ATTWS for years and haven't asked to be moved
over to the Cingular Orange system.

Thanks for the information.

It will work as a phone, but you'll need to configure it for SMS messaging and
for data.  It might be possible to have this done OTA (over the air) by SMS
"push" by using the standard RAZR V3 settings, but I don't know for sure.  See
the FAQ below for more information.

What is required to set up SMS messaging other than the phone number of
the message center - which is already on the SIM?

Is there an echo in here?  ;)

Again, again, see the FAQ below for more information.

No, I didn't see a reply the first time I posted this.

>Again, again, see the FAQ below for more information.

I looked in the section on phone configuration and can't find anything
related to setting up a non-Cingular phone to use SMS. Can you post link
to the section in the FAQ which answers the question?

I've used GSM phones around the world, and normally all you need to do is
insert the SIM. SMS is configured by default; in fact, it is sometimes the
way in which you are notifed that the service is active.

Replies on Usenet aren't automatic or a matter of entitlement.  It's a bit
rude to just post the same message again.  ;)

If you followed the instructions fully then you should be all set.

Of course not ... it's just courtesy ;-)

I didn't follow the instructions, as that was not the reason for visiting
your FAQ page. You directed me there for an answer to a question I had
about your posting ... I didn't find it.

You made the assertion that it is necessary to configure a non-Cingular
phone to use SMS. I disagreed, and asked you to expand on that. You still
haven't. Instead of responding to my question, you referred back to a
boilerplate .sig on your postings that directs readers to your FAQ.

Of course, you are under no obligation to respond ;-)

No, it's catch as catch can.  Nobody is under any obligation at all to answer
anything -- this is free help, very generously given, worth all that you're
paying for it, and for which you should be grateful, not rude.  Sometimes
people just don't have the time to answer.  Sometimes they just don't have
anything more to say.  Sometimes they decide to spend their time on something
else they find more deserving or interesting or whatever.  Sometimes ... well,
you get the idea ... right?

Then why do you presume to bug me (or anyone else for that matter)?

Then you didn't try very hard.

>You made the assertion that it is necessary to configure a non-Cingular

Nope.  What I actually wrote was:

It will work as a phone, but you'll need to configure it for SMS messaging
and for data.  It might be possible to have this done OTA (over the air) by
SMS "push" by using the standard RAZR V3 settings, but I don't know for

(What I meant to say was SMS and MMS messaging, but that's beside the point.)

This is in the context of a phone not supported by Cingular, one that I'm
personally not familiar with, and one that might well have a (non-standard)
firmware that inhibits things like messaging for all I know.

>I disagreed, and asked you to expand on that.

It seemed to me that you were being argumentative, which is one of the reasons
I didn't respond further.

>You still
>haven't.

I thought you were being rude, which is one of the reasons I didn't respond
further.  Now I know you're being both rude and argumentative.

>Instead of responding to my question, you referred back to a
>boilerplate .sig on your postings that directs readers to your FAQ.

Which was largely compiled by me at a considerable investment of time and
effort, and which contains all the information you need (if and when you ever
climb down off your high horse).  You're welcome.

>Of course, you are under no obligation to respond ;-)

I gave you more than you deserve.  ;-) back at ya.  Have a nice day.

You need to set the settings for which they are well published on the
web.

John
Thank you very much.
That was quick and painless, AND I can send pictures !.
BTW When I called Cingular service they told me you could not send
pictures with an unlocked phone and that I was lucky it worked at all.
Thanks again

Hi Ben,

I'm on the ATTWS (blue network) as well and just recently got a
unlocked Razr.  No problems in just sticking in the sim card and
going.  You'll need to do some minor tuning of the settings but they
are well published along with instructions on the web.

Feel free however to post back if you have problems and i can let you
know what mine are.
