I got my bill today, and there was "one time $18.00 Upgrade Charge"
Anyone know what this is?  I just don't want to have to call now and
fight it.

If you upgraded* you phone.
*Got a reduced price on another phone by extending your contract.
You are charged an upgrade charge by Cingular for changing out your phone
etc.

Usually you can't fight it and win.
It should have been on your new contract.
If it was not, perhaps....

If you were out of contract when you upgraded your phone.
You may call customer service and request a $20 equipment replacement
credit.
Depends on how long you have been with Cingular and how much your monthly
bill runs ...

i was going to go to GSM, but then cancelled it after a day
Funny, the rep never told me about this upgrade fee, after she told me
how great GSM is.
Only 6 weeks until Nov, 24th

With any phone upgrade either GSM or TDMA cingular charges an $18
upgrade processing fee as do most other compaies, except most other
companies do not let existing customers receive the price on the shelf
in the store.....ie tmobile has a special price list on a per customer
basis, this prices includes a $19.99 upgrade processing fee

AT&T Wireless does not charge their $15 dollar upgrade prossessing fee
when customers buy GSM phones. For now, that is. :)

In some markets upgrading to the GAIT phone also allows waiver of the $18
upgrade fee.
