I wonder if I'd be able to read any of the damn buttons in sunlight.

Who cares if it's usable--it's kewl to the people who would happily
spend the money for both the device and all the services surrounding it.

Let the stupid people pay, as long as I don't have to take care of them
in their old age.

But other phones on the market are crap. Even if you get the option of a
few services you don't need, Apple makes good products.

Yet history shows us that it won't be Apple that solves the problem of short
battery life...

Still, I want that phone. This from a guy who last used a Mac maybe 15 years
ago. I had no desire for an iPod, but this, I want.

Name a phone that you can read the screen in direct sunlight.

Nokia 6010, Nokia 3560, Nokia 3595, Motorola V180 - about 09:30 on a bright
sunny  winter's day.

Dunno about noon in the middle of the summer though...

I've got an anti-glare screen protector on my Treo. Works pretty well to
make it easier to view screen in bright sunlight.

You obvously don't live in Denver!  It's sunny as blazes here today,
reflecting off of two feet of leftover snow.  Driving without sunglasses
on a day like today is hazardous!

Sorry, I don't remember my high-school physics courses as well as I should,
but does the sun somehow dim itself in the winter?  ;-)

Whoever equated winter with gray may have been from the midwest, where
the sun is dulled most of hte season does with the help of the usual
wintery cloud cover.

But hell, even in Chicago it's a blue sky scene today though colder
than a witch's tit.

I have a V180.  Darn hard to read the screen in direct sunlight.  Possible, but it's pretty faded out.

Every Nokia I have ever had over the past 10 years.

I wont say it's not a cool device but I agree it's definitely gonna rape
your battery. You'll probably need to charge it while at work, in the car
and at home if you really use it for music/video and phone.

Personally, I think pda/mp3/phone is a good enough. But I'm sure the younger
jr/highschool niche will make good use of the video playback during bus
rides to/from school, break etc. If there was a way to install software
equivilent to microsoft streets and trips on it I would definitely buy. I
don't care for subscription gps. Subscription gps is okay on a device that
has limited memory but this almost a full blown pc.
