I'm eyeballing a new iPhone but will probably wait until the Fall when
hopefully a second generationish/3G/more storage model shows up.  Until
then I need a stop gap phone since my Audiovox 5600 is about to take a
crap.  I don't want to sign a new contract since I have to wait 21
months to get another phone deal and I hope to use that with an iPhone.
So I've been looking on eBay for phones either locked/unlocked/used/new/
whatever.  I need excellent phone functions/performance and a good web
browser.  A good MP3 player and cam would be nice but they aren't my
main needs.  I surf the web a lot from my phone.  I mainly use Yahoo for
my email and also browse for news, weather, eBay, Google searches, etc..
It would be nice to have a QWERTY keyboard but it's not essential.
Here's what I'm looking at so far:
-Cingular 2125 (no 3G?)
-Cingular 3125 (again, no 3G)
-Motorazr V3XX (how's the Opera browser compared to the mobile IE?)
-Samsung Blackjack (looks real good across the board but pricey for a
stop gap)

So far I'm leaning towards the Motorazr since I can get it brand new, no
contract from Cingular for $229.  How's the browsing though?  The 2125
looks good and I can probably get one of those for $125ish but no 3G?
It seems that the Motorazr edges out the 3125 because of a slightly
better price that I can find and the 3G.  If I get a smokin' deal on a
Blackjack, I'll probably go that route though.  The extra PDA functions
will be handy.

Any input on the above phones or others to look at as I wait it out for
an iPhone?

Thanks for any input.

Nokia 6682 is great. Not 3G, but here in Dallas, TX the 3G still drops
calls several times a day, so I went back 3G, waiting for Nokia N70,
then IPhone in June...

Get a Treo. I have a 650. Vastly prefer it to anything else on the
market, and does everything you need. I don't care about MP3 (I have an
iPod). Phone connection and voice levels are good. Opera looks great on
it, better than Blazer.
I will be going to iPhone, though.

Well, you can always buy a phone from Cingy off contract, yes it's
expensive, but not sure how much more or less depending on the phone you
want, then going for something off ebay.  Cingy gives me 25% off all phones
off contract do to the company I work for, I did pick up an HTC (Cingular)
8525 for $300 a few months ago, and yes it's 3g hsdpa.  Windows Mobile
Pocket PC phone.

My advice is to check to see if your employer has some deal with Cingy and
go from there.

If you need a phone until the iPhone launches then go with the
BlackJack or if that is to expensive then go with the Sync or the LG
CU500. All these phones are 3G/HSDPA. I would suggest to stay away
from the Treo 650 since this is old technology. The newer palms
software has received updates and are much more sleeker in design.
Also you can get a Palm with Windows. Palm OS is ok, but in general
the phone is sluggish and quirky. Stick with 3G/HSDPA or you will
regret it down the road or unless speeds do not matter to you.

Hope this helps.

The 650 has not been sluggish and quirky for me, and I've had it for
almost a couple years. The person was looking for an interim phone.
The "sleeker design" is merely hiding the antenna nib.
