Someone told me they saw a TV promo for unlimited text messages for $5.  I
haven't seen it and can't believe Cingular would do it but thought I should
ask if anyone else has heard of this?

Chime in if you have!!  Details please!

It's only unlimited to other AT&T/Cingular users. For some reason the
promo doesn't show up everywhere, so maybe it's being marketed regionally.

Here are the texting rates of the top four carriers:

              In Network                   Any Network

ATTWS  Sprnt  T-Mob   VZW     ATTWS  Sprnt  T-Mob   VZW

 $5    Unlim*   0      0      0        200   300     400    250
$10    Unlim  Unlim    0    Unlim      200  Unlim   1000    500
$15    Unlim    x      x    Unlim      400    x    Unlim   1500
$20    Unlim    x      x    Unlim     1000    x      x     5000

$25    Unlim    x      x      x       3000    x      x      x

*availability varies

and alt.cellular.attws is the proper venue for posts regarding AT&T's
Wireless Service.]

True, but he's got an agenda to disrupt newsgroups -- see below:

Yep.  I've seen in my area, too.  And I was equally surprised.

The unlimited text messaging option is not for $5, but, for $5
_more_.  So, if you already have a text or MMS messaging plan, you can
add another $5 for unlimited messaging.
