I am running a GAIT phone on the Preferred Nation. Does that plan allow
for any GSM coverage, other than home area?

And a question I've been meaning to ask Cingular but always forgot, and
it's not on their website: How much is long distance to Canada on the
Preferred Nation 350 plan?

As long as your phone says CINGULAR and not CINGULAR EXTENEDED you are
ok.
Calls to canada are charged. Not free at all.
