I was under the Impression that you buy the iphone, but to use it you have
to have it activated. That's where the two year plan comes in. Once you have
it turned on, you must commit to the 2 yr plan with data.

If you have already paid full price for the phone, what is the need for a
two year comittment?. It's understandable that a lower price on the phone
needs to be subsidized by a two year plan, but that doesn't appear to be a
subsidized price they are getting for the iPhone. What do you get back for
your two year committment? Nothing. What's wrong with this picture?
