Apple never says for sure. The only reason I know 1.14 is the last before
2.0 is a apple store mgr told me. Once you dock it, iTunes will tell you if
there is a new one.

I don't know what the current is, but it's been all over the tech news
that the next major release is going to be 2.0, most likely sometime in
June. The major new feature will be the ability to install third party
native software, downloadable/installable from a new Apple iPhone
software store (almost certainly via iTunes). This will theoretically
turn the iPhone into a full SmartPhone (phone/PDA) rather than it's
current status of a "super featurephone).
I am waiting on this before deciding what my next phone device will be.
I currently use a Palm Treo.

Sold my Treo 650 almost a year ago for my iPhone. Never looked back.
Firmware is currently 1.1.4 but don't keep count. Apple has regularly
updated since I bought it.
For those who don't know, iPhone firmware updates are done seamlessly
when you sync your phone through iTunes. No going anywhere to find
software.

There are some pieces of software that I "must" have. Not necessarily
the same brand/developer, but the kind of software. I must have a
multifunction database like Ilium ListPro for my shopping lists and
collection inventories and I must have an encrypted datakeeper for
logins, bank info, etc like Datashield or eWallet, they should sync to
desktop software, and they must reside entirely on my device.
While this can be done now with WinMob, it cannot yet be done with an
iPhone and I prefer the interface (and web browser) of the iPhone.
Hence why I'm waiting for the iPhone 3rd party software.
