Cingular is test marketing lower cell phone prices. Case in point
Sony Ericsson T616 phone. Is it $149.99 or is it $49.99 ?,
both with $50 rebate.

Bummer. Likely cancelling my service soon. I was wanting a T616, but thought
the price was a bit high especially for locking into a contract. I have now
pretty much decided just to switch to another carrier (name not released as
I refuse to advertise for anyone on here lol)that offers better deals on
phones since cingular wouldn't work with me on the phone price or contract
length. I would pay 49.99 for it, especially with a $50 rebate even if I had
to lock into another two year contract. But $150 with a 2 year contract is a
bit high I think when I can get one on ebay, unlocked, for about $50 more
and not extend my contract. Still may stay as I hate to switch to carrier
'x', be locked into a one year contract, and not like the service.

Cancel your service, and then go on the web to buy a T616 and be a new Cingular
customer.

They are offering at the new customer price for my area (149.99 - $50
rebate), but I really don't want to extend the contract for two years. I
have found them as low as about $220 on ebay. I may go that route and just
swap my SIM out and viola.... no contract. I wouldn't mind extending it for
$50 bucks though ... hell of a price on that phone.

Just out of curiosity, do you happen to remember any of the $49.99 zip
codes/areas? I am curious of some of the other prices also.
