For Christmas, I got a Treo 270. I can't get a signal in the house, unless
I'm standing at a window! I'm currently using Cingular. Before the Treo, I
was using a Motorola T720 (My wife also has the same model), got a great
signal, even down in the cellar! Before that, I was using a Erricson, which
also got good signal strength. Doing my homework, I've found that both of
these phones operate at the 850/1900 freq.
Now my understanding is that the Treo operates at 900/1900 freq.
Now for the questions:
Could my signal problems be because of the frequencies? In other words,
could the Motorola be using the 850 freq, which might be broadcasting from a
local tower (about 4 miles as the crow flies), and the Treo is using
900/1900
from a tower farther away (no idea where the next nearest tower is)?
Is there a was to find out what freq the phone is using while on?
Is there any place that would have information on what freqs are broadcast
from which towers?
If it's a signal incompatiablty, 850 vs. 900 freq, is there hope that ALL
the freqs will be broadcast from all towers?
Anyone have any suggestions? I've already been to Palm/Handspring, had the
Treo replace, went thru their worthless tech section, but still no answers.
Thanks for any replies
Paul
After reading around, it looks like I might have to upgrade to the Treo 600
for good coverage in my area. Anyone have any experience with this phone in
fringe coverage areas?

900 Mhz is not used in the USA. My guess is you are seeing a
combination of crummy RF performance on the Treo, and perhaps the
local GSM service is at 850Mhz , or Cingular is only at 850Mhz...

I've recently upgraded from the Treo 300 to the 600 and I can repor
better coverage. I don't know about the 270, but it is definatel
better than my 300.
Hope this helps
