I live in san antonio texas and have a 6340i and recently I was on the
south side of town and noticed that the signal strength was acting
quite odd it would go to two bars and then back up to max and then 2
less then max later in the day. I enabled the gsm tower listings and
there a couple of gsm towers which listed prior to this there had only
been one with a signal but now there were quite a few (such as 1-03
and 1-04 filled incudling one more on 1-05) but I had seen this before
on that side of town the day prior and dialled 611 and got ahold of
tmobile customer service except today it says cingular and additionaly
goes to cingular's usual customer support center.
Is there anyone else who can verify that cingular has gsm support in
this area? additionally when i check the tdma networks pages they are
blank except for the very first listing of tdma towers 21-07 and it
lists -113.

i'm not sure how many of you are aware of a tdma phone being next to a
monitor and the flicker it causes but now it seems when my phone is
active the screen seems to flicker as if bits of information are being
sent to and from the phone as in the same manner as your monitor
flickers when text messages are being received. the only problem i am
getting now is that occasionly no one can call me for after 2 rings it
says to check the number and try again.
so if anyone can help me figure out what is going on it would be
appreciated.

but with gsm? i was down past utsa downtown near south park mall and
the signal gets weak as you get into the neighborhoods the signal bar
gets at like 2 or  3 and when you put you rhand over the top part it
looses it's signal sometimes but now the gsm isn't apearing on my
phone does anyone know why? I already miss the gsm :( but i'm kinda
glad though because people couldn't really call my cell when it went
into that mode.

Cingular is attempting to roll out GSM in the greater San Antonio
area.  It sounds like your handset is attempting to lock on to one or
more GSM channels, so maybe you can help them test their new network
while they're still installing it.
