Upload MP3 ringtones to V400?

I can send an MP3 via MMS to my V400, and I can store the sound file
in the phone, but I cannot set the MP3 to be a ringtone.

Suggestions?

MP3's in .wav format will store and play on the V400 (and V600). However,
the phone will take MP3's that are in AMR (variable bit rate) format, but
they can not be used as ringtones.
