Hi - I've done a search through posts, but can't find anything..... Can
anyone tell me if:

I can have the screensaver on a longer delay b4 it comes on?

I can set the light to stay on a bit longer?

TIA

I found that having the phone plugged into a charger in the car holds up the
background display for longer before the clock screensaver comes in.

I have however found some other annoying things with the Z600 :-

1)    I still cannot send/recieve emails unless I sign up for a GPRS
tarriff, which is not available to me as I prepay a year in advance and it
is not an option until december 2004. A search on Google for "Sony Ericsson
email problems" throws up 68,000 results.

2)    I cannot enter calling card info as the Z600 does not allow the "p"
character to be used in a dialling string. This was achieved on my old T39
by pressing & holding the * key until it appeared.

To get my 3p/min calls to the USA entered into the phone book I have to edit
the number on a Psion organiser then use infrared to send the contact to the
phone.

3)    The phone hasn an ability to take (poor quality) pictures or by use of
software to transfer pictures to the phone. You can then associate a picture
with a contact - now I thought that the Z600 would at least display the
picture when the person rang so you can "see" who's calling you, but no. So
why carry the picture around?

I carry pictures of by Motor bike around instead 'coz their nice to look at

All this from a supposedly 21st Century phone.

Disappointing

A lot of those hits are probably related to the problem with the older
firmware T68i models; they lost all custom e-mail settings whenever they
were switched off which was a real pain especially if you spent a lot of
time going into hospitals.

I've not had any problems receiving e-mails on my Z600. This is using
Vodafone UK, dialling into Freeserve's 0845 number using plain GSM, and
connecting to a ClaraNET POP3 server. I have had problems sending
e-mails with attachments, and I haven't got to the bottom of that yet,
but plain text e-mails are working fine. The same settings also worked
with my old Orange SIM until the number porting kicked in.

What network and/or ISP are you trying to e-mail with?

Hold down the 7 key until the p appears. I don't use calling cards and
have never heard of this function but it only took 30 seconds of
experimentation to discover this. You need to learn to play with your
toys more :)

To be fair though I don't think this is in the manual.

Main Menu | Calls | Manage Calls | Open To Answer provides for the
option not to pick up the call when the flip is opened. If you do this
you have to open the phone then press the Accept button. During this
period the picture is displayed.

Note that this doesn't display the whole of a full (phone) resolution
image, just a thumbnail roughly the resolution of the old T68 screen.
This pops up in the middle rather like a "posted" note. Judicious use of
an external editing program would reduce some memory overheads for
images you only want to use as caller identifiers.

It's not the greatest phone in the world by any means, and I have a few
gripes with it myself (not being able to delete the built-in games like
V-Rally is particularly annoying). But it's leagues ahead of the T68i
which is what I, and I suspect many others from reading web sites,
upgraded from.

Because I'm a sucker for flip-phones rather than PDA look-alike smart
phones I would go so far as to rank the Z600 as Sony-Ericsson's best to
date, although obviously others' opinions will vary.

I'm a confirmed Nokia user, but wanted Bluetooth (hate the Nokia 6600) and
have always disliked SE, but must say am reasonably happy with the Z600 -
now they need to make it smaller and lighter!! Get rid of the novelty camera
I say!!

For the benefit of anyone making their own Caller ID images for the Z600
a bit of experimentation has shown that 100x101 pixels seems to be the
optimum resolution. Any other resolutions give unpredictable results as
the phone tries to crop or scale the image.

They also pop up on incoming SMS which was an unexpected bonus.

Hi - must be something wrong with your phone because mine brings up the
picture when that person calls!! I can also send email by using my isp, NOT
using GPRS - no probs!!

OK, I thank you for the "p" charachet by holding "7" down.

On the old T39 it was press & hold the hash.

I noticed that some pictures do come up and some don't.

If I get bored over Christmas I'll play more (as suggested).
