I love my T610 however, i more than once i missed calls becaue i simply
could not hear the ringtone... is this a fault with my particular phone or
is it just the quality??
The other thing is the software is so disappointing, nokia bundles software
that allows you to do basically EVERYTHING with your phone, you can backup
SMS messages, MMS, profiles, etc....however, with SE all you get is the
inadequate XTend software..it would be absolutely great if SE produced
similar software to Nokia's..
Thirdly and finally, isn't the whole purpose of JAVA is to be platform
independant and aren't all java programs supposed to work on all devices
running the java virtual machine?? i believe this is true, then, why can't
my phone run applications created for nokia phones and vice versa??

I have a t610 as well. I find the more complex ringtones harder to hear then the simple "ring ring" I used on my old Nokia 3360. Also, the ring on the t610 gradually increases in volume instead of ringing at full volume immediately. I haven't figured out yet if this is optional. There are many ringtones to chose from though, so you may be able to find one that catches your attention better. Regarding software, have a look at Float's Mobile Agent (search google for a link). It is full of options and talks fine to my t610 via the IR port. Overall, I like the phone, but clearly it's not perfect. My main complaint is the screen can't be seen in bright outdoor light.

go to profiles, by going to menu choose the icon in the bottom right
corner and then profiles, it should be in there for turning off the
gradual increase in volume and put it straight to full volume .

Are we not getting confused with the standard ring/increasing tone "safety
feature" here?
Which naturally can't be turned off.

Float's Mobile Agent and bluetooth is -the- way to go for connection to
your phone.
As for the ringtone I use the old phone because its easy to hear and
I've also changed the ring volume of the normal (default) profile to the
highest setting.

It seems that Sony/Ericsson are afraid to make phones that ring loud. The
monophonic ringers are louder, and different MIDI instruments/frequencies
will be easier to hear than others.

You can download more stuff from sonyericsson.com. It's NOT under the "fun
and downloads section" (not on the US page anyway). Find your phone, go to
the support tab, enter your local info, and then find "global support."

Actually, I prefer that the phone is not too loud, and I have it set t
increasing volume. I switch to mute when I am at work because I am i
a hospital, and then back on for the weekends.
When you miss a call, you just have to trust that somebody who wants t
talk to you will call again..

The OP may well agree with you but might be is changing his profile to
Outdoors where many people want a loud ringtone - it's *their* choice
(or rather should be). The T610 is too low in ring volume & has an
increasing ring which can't be turned off (over & above the Increase
ring option). This is a safety feature to stop SE getting sued for
damaging hearing - many phones have a separate speaker which would face
away from the ear, so wouldn't matter if it went off loudly. Cordless
landline phone manufactures were encouraged to sort this 15yrs ago & did
so. Sometimes small phones are lacking worthwhile features.
> When you miss a call, you just have to trust that somebody who wants

And if the OP is a doctor on call, on standby duty, a taxi driver, a
Salesman or has a randy ex-girlfriend desperately trying to call him?
No, he doesn't have to suppose someone will call again.

Take that up with the game developers and Nokia. They use special Nokia
extensions in their games, damming the portability of Java.

What do Software Patents do?
In its current form, they protect only companies with

Try a different ringtone, like Halloween or Theme to Excorcist. Most phones
that have polyphonic ringtones are lower in volume than the older mono
tones.
