Mine is pretty snappy -- perhaps you have old firmware.

Say what?

T68i has the same structure as the T39m.

Not true -- you can either set auto-save, or add it to a new phone book entry.

True, but damn sharp.

Ring tones are actually quite good. Mine rings to Bizet's Carmen.

How silly.

Get the Ericsson holster.

Arguably still the high water mark in compact, sophisticated GSM phones.

I do not intend to upgrade the firmware, and I still maintain it is slow.

Tapping "down"-2-2-2 for writing a new message instead of
"down"-"down"-"yes"-"down"-"down"-"yes" and so on.

Ok, never actually tried one, I can just see that the screen has all sorts
of icons on it.

Hey, more power to you. I don't like any of them. I am using the "Popeye"
theme.

I know. Never happened to any of my phones on such a regular basis since my
first one in 1994

Actually, I don't like the most common one, with the horizontal orientation,
and 3rd party holsters are not very common,

For my needs, I do not think I can do very much better.

Then you have no-one but yourself to blame. Firmware upgrades are
introduced primarily to counteract problems identified, this goes for any
phone. If you are willing to continue with bug-ridden firmware, you really
have no room to moan about it.

Ericsson do/did make two official cases for the T39, one as you describe was
fabric and oriented horizontally, the other was leather and operated as a
holster. This was oriented vertically.
