Z600 Got Damp!

Hi, my Z600 has developed a fault. It was after a downpour of good old
English rain, the phone was in my pocket, and when I got home it had
condensation on it (NOT submersed, or wet, just condensation - but this did
extend to inside the front cover)

Now 2-3keys on the pad don't respond. It's in the airing cupboard at the
moment and has been for about 18hrs in the hope that it will dry any
condensation that has got onto the keypad.

Anyone else had a similar experience? I would have hope it would have been a
bit more resilient than that!

Am I looking at a new keypad, or do these things dry out eventually?

It happened to me, and the advice I received at the time was to not place it
in such a warm place. (I dropped a T68i in the bath ages ago whilst abroad
on business, placed it in a shoe and then proceeded to blast it with a hair
dryer - that really buggered it up).

My best advice is to take it apart as far as possible, dry any obvious
moisture and leave on some kitchen towel for a few days in a 'normal' place
(not overly warm, not overly cool). Try to resist the temptation of firing
it up before then and you will probably find it will be OK.

When re-assembling you may want to rub the battery contacts and the ones on
the phone with a cotton bud (perhaps dampened with some alcohol based
fluid - I used nail varnish remover (my wife's!)). And hope for the best.

I appreciate your advice. I took it apart and there was no sign of water
ingression. I seem to remember that it had been behaving oddly recently.
Where I take it out of my pocket and it was just "off" for no reason.

I think the downpour was a red herring!

I've sent it back to a SE repair centre in the hope they'll repair it under
warranty, it's only 5M old!
