Anyone using a smartphone under Windows mobile 2003 with the Fido
Network ? I am having MMS problems with a SMT5600 of my own lately and
would like to compare settings with other users... also do Fido still
support CSD to dial from a GPRS device to an ISP modem bank ?

And you are surprised that you have problems with a Windows based
product ?

Nop. FIDO does not support CSD anymore. WIth the merger with Rogers, I
am not even sure that CSD is still active, but it was still there before
the merger began, but you,d have to jump through hoops for FIDO to
activate the service for you.

Since GPRS on FIDO goves you real internet access, why do you need to
dial to an ISP ?

The os works fine, seems like fido is picky about wich devices are
allowed to send MMS, even with the right setting.

CSD have been officially* taken out when they fully integrated GPRS so
it could not be used anymore as a backup for area where no net coverage
was availlable. but i know from experience that many still uses it even
if it's not on their feature list.. just tried the hoop with fido CS
today without any luck, apparently the option is not there anymore.

well Fido GPRS goes for 3¢/Ko and is only availlable to suscribed
customers. dialup over CSD you only pay airtime.

The big benefit of CSD is that it is way cheaper for occasional
internet access with a laptop, e.g. free evenings and weekends, than
the rip-off 3 cents per kb.  Really handy when you are on the road and
want to check your email.

Actually, if you still have the CSD through some grandfather clause of
FidoData, I don't believe that it is part of your voice minutes. I believe
that their free evening/weekend applies to voice minutes only even when they
did offer CSD.
