At a time when the EU is considering regulating mobile carriers due to
excessive roaming charges...

Fido proudly announces a new and improved roaming tarifs to the USA
effective August 04:

Outgoing local calls from USA go from 0.50 to 0.95 per minute

Outgoing long distance calls from USA to USA/Canada go from 0.50 + 0.30
to 0.95 + 0.75 per minute.

Incoming calls in the USA go from 0.50 + 0.20 long distance to 0.95 +
0.25 per minute

Long distance from Canada to Canada or the USA goes from 0.20 to 0.30
per minute effective September 1.

Ahh, the good old days of 0.10 long distance and what was it,. 0.20 for
roaming in the USA ?

Outgoing calls with long distance are actually the worse.

Obviously, they want to steer all business users from Fido to Rogers by
making Fido usable only by teenage girls who only talk to their local friends.

On the pamphlet, instead of jumping up, that dog should be lying low
with its tail between its legs. Real dogs know when they have misbehaved.

BAD DOG ! FIDO ! BAD DOG !

It's not like Rogers' long distance is much better...

It's time to lobby for a fourth operator in Canada and, more
specifically, a second GSM network provider.

Indeed!  My suggestions (in no particular order) CRTC, Industry Canada,
Competition Bureau, your MP, PetitionOnline etc.

And what would you suggest any of them to do?  I don't see any of them
starting up a new GSM carrier, do you?

Say the opposition raised the matter with the George W Harper
government. The later would then declare that the Liberal's decision to
allow Microcell to be swallowed by Rogers killed competition in Canada
and that the only way to allow competition would be to allow US firms to
invest in Canada with no foreign onwership restrictions.

Does Verizon see the end of the line of CDMA and decided to build GSM in
Canada ? Or would they push through and still build up CDMA in Canada ?
