.mobi sites are now active

The new .mobi tld is now active. It is for sites that are specially
designed for mobile devices.

http://www.mtld.mobi/  for more information. It has some some example
sites you can go to to test it on your mobile phone  (such as
http://nokia.mobi )

Neat, only thing is getting a domain is twice the price of "dot com"
domains. They claim that's due to monitoring.

Unfortunately, considering how expensive it is to "surf" sites on your
phone (unless you have an unlimited data plan) I can't imagine this means
much to many people.

I wonder what the stats are in north america for people who "surf the web"
on their phones. I'm willing to bet it's pretty darn small.
