A while back, Siemens sold its money losing mobile division to Taiwan's
BENQ.

BENQ keps it separate (BENQ Mobile). Now, BENQ Mobile is expected to
file for insolvency within hours/days.

Obviously, Siemens handsets will not stop working. But one must wonder
if Fido will continue to be able to unlock those phones. Is their
unlocking software fully stand alone and independant of the manufacturer ?

I don't know about the unlocking issue, but I will shed a tear over the
demise of Seimens.  My M75 has been a great phone on Fido and I'd buy
another in a heartbeat.  Hopefully someone will pick up the remnants of
the company and keep it alive.
