FIDO ACCEPTS DIALAROUND LD: Rogers' Fido cellular service now has its
first dialaround long distance provider.
Montreal-based Buzz Telecom (10-11-555) offers Fido customers
Canada-U.S. calls for 4.5 cents/minute.
Has anyone tried this ?

10-11-555 does work.
And I called Fido, and although the 4 legged furry CSRs haven't been
trained on this, the ifnormation is hidden in their system. Asking
thenm to search for "Buzz" makes them find the info (Buzz telecom is the
one that provides 10-11-555)
So, instead of paying $0.30 for long distance, you spend only $0.045
cents per minute.
It is billed to your Fido account, but those sums do not generarte Fido dollars.
This works for both Canada and USA.

Do you have to call in to get it activated?

What I saw was that $0.99 for the 10.11.289 service. If you look at the
"news" they have just announce the per minute 10.11.555 service but
couldn't find any details.
However the 4 legged furry Fido CSR did see the mention of the 0.45
cents per minute on his internal computer system.

Shoudln't be. the 10-10 scheme (10-11 for canada I guess) isn't tied to
a location. Try it
10115551aaaxxxnnnn where aaa is area code, xxx-nnnn is the phone
number. Then press "SEND".
