I can access my and other external WAP sites at this point in time. And I
can also access my email via POP.
However, there are many times when in certain areas where I get sporadic
WAP service where I get the same error messages as you do. I suspect
network congestion.

No, it's been out of service for a month. Every time I try it, I get
the same thing - connects, but no web site can be found. Same thing
with email. It acts like there's no DNS, which wouldn't surprise me
given all the problems Fido has had with DNS.
I asked in the Fido store this week since I was walking by, and the
response was "WAP? Is that like iFido?"

Check the Fido forum at HowardForums:

There was some reconfiguration of WAP and Internet gateways about the
time you started having trouble.

Thank you, ibrantfd, that saved me a lot more fooling around. I should
have thought to check HowardForums. The post in question is this one:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1047055
... which confirms that it was an arbitrary change made by Fido which
cut off a group of customers using wap.fido.ca without warning and
without mentioning anything about it to their own staff. Abysmal
customer service like this is why we hate Fido!
