I understand the purpose of unlocking a gsm phone is so it can be used with
another company (using the appropriate sim card), but what is the purpose of
unlocking the browser? Do I need unlock the browser in addition to the phone
itself?
I am interested in subscribing to the F2F plan with fido but am interested
in getting a rogers flip phone. I wanted to know what i'm getting into
before i go ahead with my plan. any help is appreciated.

What browser and phone are you talking about? What inclines you to think "a"
browser needs to be unlocked, anyway?

In a previous post I was directed to http://www.omegacell.com to get
information about the cost of unlocking various makes of phones. In the
unlocking section they quote prices for unlocking sims and browsers. I
wanted to know what they mean by unlocking browsers? any ideas.

Unlocking a phone means you'll be able to insert a foreign SIM in the phone.
But that won't unlock the browser (ie. allowing you to modify the WAP/GPRS
settings to use a different provider). Therefore to fully unlock a phone,
you need to have both a SIM unlock and a browser unlock.
Also, you might want to only unlock a browser. Ie. you have a Fido phone,
and you don't plan to use other companies, but you'd like to modify the WAP
settings to use a different WAP gateway, etc. Unlocking the browser will
allow you to do that.
