On the keypad, type in *#0000#. It should display the software version. If
it is anything but v.7.80, then you need a software upgrade. Anything below
7.80 has known issues. But the *beep, beep* doesn't sound normal, that's the
sound a phone makes when the IMEIis blocked (i.e. stolen phone).
Good luck!

I agree with the comments by Nobody below.
I was having these problems, although intermittently, with the
occasional freezing. I have not experienced this since I had the
software upgraded two weeks ago.
Fido Downtown Vancouver (on Georgia) has the software upgrade.

I agree, and I was having the same problem intermittently of the phone
going 'beep, beep'
It was a software issue. Version 7.80 is much better based on the last
couple of weeks of use.
Fido on Georgia st, Vancouver, has the software and was very helpful.
Cheers

My Nokia 8390 turns off by itself. Can it be a software problem?
The clerk at fido Store just cleaned the contacts inside the phone, but
without success...
Thanks

It can definitely be a software issue, especially on firmware v.7.00. To
check, enter *#0000# on the keypad. If it displays the firmware as anything
but 7.80, then you need an upgrade. Software upgrades can be done at
flagship stores.

get a new phone.
i have a 8390 aswell and its the worst phone I've ever owned.
Ive been through literally 12 phones..
I wanna grab the T310 or even the T300 but I dont feel like spending 200$ on
a phone at the moment. Hopefully Fido can give to me for 125$

I think this has been said about a million times before, but here goes: get
your phone's firmware updated! Fido does this for FREE! Even if your phone
is no longer under warranty. If your software is anything but v.7.80, bring
it to a Fido flagship store to get it flashed. It really isn't a bad phone,
with the correct software.

P.S. To check the firmware revision, type into the keypad *#0000#
