I am looking to get one of the cheaper Fido phones for my daughter.  I'd
like to hear comments on the SE 300 vs 310.

Really mostly interested in basic phone use, i.e. sound quality,
reception, etc. not the GPSR, games or gimmicks.

Thanks,

Well the 300 and 310 are pretty much identical, since the 310 is an
"updated" version of the 300, and since price is the same, I'd go for the
310 without question. The 300 can be seen as an "earlier" revision of the
310. TTYL

If you're looking for a cheap, no gimmicks phone..definitely get the
Siemens A56, and with it's new silver faceplate..it looks great. The
phone has great reception, much better than the Sony Ericsson T310 or
T300, Steve Punter reviewed it.

I love my a56.  I've gone 5 and a half days between charges (turning it
off at night, and a few short calls, but on all day.)
Sound quality is excellent.  Size is strange, since it's so tiny.
When  you're talking, it gets swallowed in your palm, but the people
iv'e talked to on it say I come through loud and clear.

My only quirk with it is everytime it turns one, it alwasy says "keep
phone away from ear, ringer set at max loudness" yet i've turned down
all the ringers.  :P

I can't speak for the 300 or 310, since I haven't reviewed them, but I did
review the Siemens A56. This phone has very impressive RF and audio,
especially for the price. You can read my review at:

Well my sister would definitely vouch for the Vtech A700 which I got for
her a while ago. I'm not sure if you can still find it since it is listed
as discontinued on the Fido web site.

I've got both the 300 and the 310.  I prefer the 310 but my kids prefer the
look and feel of the 300.  Go figure :)  The 310 seems more robust to me and
has survived a few worrying falls: shirt pocket onto ceramic tiles, etc.

I had a Vtech 700 first for about a week or so. It's not a bad phone but the
menus are not very practical and reception is not that great.

Sony Ericsson T200 served me for more than a year faultlessly. Very good
reception great sound quality and good features. It would serve for much
longer but now I sold it and got myself a new Nokia 6800 8-)

I also tried the A56. Very nice phone great reception and nice features for
the money.

I've had three different replacement T200's.  All  pieces of crap.  Lousy
sound transimssion quality and poor reception.  I'll NEVER buy a Sony
Ericsson phone again.

Yup I have to admit, the Sony-Ericson T200 is a crappy phone I hate it,  but
bought 2 of them for $25 one for me and one for my wife and I regret wasting
my fido credit on them!

I have always had either Nokia and Motorola and they never let me down...
