TELUS Call

Brani - 19 Nov 2003 21:23 GMT Hi Guys!
Today my Fido phone rang about 3PM, it was a private number. I picked and male voice (sounded like pre recorded) spilled out on me that it's finally time to switch to the right provider - Telus - with so and so and bla and bla...
Has anybody had similar experience?
F.... bastards!!!!
Is there any institution where I can submit my complaint? Do they have legal right to do that? May I sue them? What can I do? I'm really pissed! Not only by this particular incident but also by the whole dirty advertising campaign orchestrated by Telus and Rogers. Please understand me: I'm not Fido fanatic or something, but I'm just an average satisfied customer and all this has reached the level which is far beyond fair competition.... And that call just nailed that.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Brani

I thought about demanding the $0.16 it cost me to pick up the message from Telus, just the annoyance to them might be worth it to me, but if anyone has a better idea please let me know. I still have the recording on my voicemail. TTYL

and wile you are at it why not do what I did and complain about Rogers Bell and Telus not wanting number portability
repatch - 20 Nov 2003 04:42 GMT > >> Hi Guys! > >> [quoted text clipped - 31 lines] > and wile you are at it why not do what I did and complain about Rogers > Bell and Telus not wanting number portability Not "annoying" enough to the company that did it. In my case it was a little shop in a mall that called me, I want THEM to feel something for doing what they did. TTYL
Brani - 20 Nov 2003 20:29 GMT Don't get rid of it "repatch". I'll get back to you via email, we may come up with something...

TTYL repatch - 20 Nov 2003 22:39 GMT Well, FWIW I called Fido to complain and the CSR seemed to be quite interested, I played back the voicemail, he wrote down a few things and said they might call me back for more info. Hopefully something will be done about it.
I'll record it to MP3 and post it somewhere if people are interested. TTYL

if you can make an mp3, i will post in on my server.
whatever takes to stop this b*stards from stealing fido customers.
regards
maltchev - 20 Nov 2003 07:12 GMT Just dial 611 and tell FIDO CS about this. I am sure you are not the only customer and they will submit a complaint to CRTC.
It happened to me some two years ago. "F... bastards" is right...
Brani - 20 Nov 2003 20:18 GMT Thanks for the feedback to all of you!
I calmed down a little but am still motivated enough to do what you've suggested...

Jack - 21 Nov 2003 02:18 GMT So you transferred your home number to Fido and now you're getting all these telemarketers calling to your Fido phone. Why it's that much more irritating than if they called to your wired phone? Did you complain to CRTC for every telemarketing call you picked up on wired phone? Not worth the time, don't talk to them and don't answer private or unknown numbers, problem solved.
> Hi Guys! > [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] > > Brani toras - 22 Nov 2003 07:32 GMT >So you transferred your home number to Fido and now you're getting all these >telemarketers calling to your Fido phone. I got the same message in my voicemail and I don't know how they got my Fido number (maybe random dialing usiing Fido exchange?)
>Why it's that much more irritating than if they called to your wired phone? When using my land line I don't pay by the minute (I'm on pre-paid Fido).
>Did you complain to CRTC for every telemarketing call you picked up on wired phone? I've never had telemarketing calls on my land line that say "it's time to dump Bell completely and use our service instead".
>don't talk to them and don't answer private or unknown numbers, problem solved. As I said I got it in my voicemail when my phone was off so I didn't know who it was so have to pay to listen to the message. Being pissed off I erased the message immediately. Now I regret it, I should have called that number and give them a piece of my mind.
Jack - 22 Nov 2003 21:18 GMT I've had telemarketing calls on my landline asking me to dump Telus landline and sign up with Sprint. Maybe I did if they called now as Telus is getting soo bad, no customer service.

Brani - 24 Nov 2003 15:14 GMT > So you transferred your home number to Fido and now you're getting all these > telemarketers calling to your Fido phone. You write about something I'm not aware of.... I haven't transferred my number, where did you get it?! I still got both phone services - regular and cellular. And I do not plan to change it.
Don't waste energy based on wrong assumptions....

Virago - 23 Nov 2003 23:54 GMT I got a Call from a Telus agent who hardly spoke any English and was trying to convince me to switch now. I hang up on him hearing his spam. A day later I get an SMS from the guy with his name and phone number. I call him back from our land line and the guy just wouldn't give up. He barks something about a free phone and price match, blahblahblah. On the top of it all he wanted me to travel to the east end of town to see him. I told him that I'll I think about it.
Next step: I call Fido and asked for a manager. I told them everything and he asked if I have the guy's info. I did. remember the SMS message?! :) Fido said, they take care of it and they appreciate my loyalty.
If they call you again, ask for their name and number, than report em to Fido. I think what they do is illegal.
Cheers

Peter Karwowski - 22 Dec 2003 17:40 GMT Hate to revive an old thread but they're doing it again.
I just got a call on my cell phone from a blocked number. I usually don't answer those since it's usually a wrong number anyway. At any rate, the party in question left voice mail.
So I pick up my voicemail and lo and behold, it's Wireless Wave in Oakville trying to get me to switch to Telus.
Two things that bug me about this:
1. Wireless Wave is a Fido dealer. Sure is nice to see how they're loyal to their suppliers. Bet they think the same about their customers.
2. When I called the number in the message (905-465-2837) to complain, they were aware of the campaign but there was nobody there in a "position of authority" to do something about it. I asked them to call me back so we can talk about how they're going to compensate me for the hassle and the cost of the voice message.
If you get these messages, make sure you call them back and ream them out for what they're doing. If they get thousands of people clogging up their systems being reamed out, they'll get the message. I'm all for business and the spirit of competition, but this really is pushing things too far.
Spam phone voicemails are bad Spam phone voicemails on the cell phone are worse. Spam phone voicemails that cost you money are even worse.

Deep - 23 Dec 2003 01:30 GMT I sent a message to the CRTC complaints board and received this... ____________________________________________________________________________ ______________
Dear Deep Mehta:
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.
The Commission has established universal rules for telemarketers. The following is a link to our fact sheet http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/INFO_SHT/T22.htm. You will note that callers are to provide some means of contacting them so that subscribers can request that their numbers be added to the 'do not call' list. As well, ADADs (automatic dialing and answering devices) are not to be used.
I have, therefore, taken the liberty of forwarding your letter to Telus Mobility and would ask the company to advise their call centre of this matter. The Commission would appreciate a copy of its reply as well in due course.
Regards,

Jeff Bamford - 23 Dec 2003 01:39 GMT I called Fido and mentioned the call I got. Apparently they even have a form the reps can fill out. They've been getting a lot of complaints about this. The rep I spoke to had even been called herself.

mistaroboto - 23 Dec 2003 02:47 GMT Peter,
WirelessWave doesn't sell Telus products, they dropped Telus (clearnet) a couple of years ago and went to Bell Mobility instead. I just tried calling the number you listed below and it rang throughn with a message at the end saying that "the mobile customer you are trying to call is unavailable".
Via a reverse number lookup it is http://411ca.whitepages.com/search/Reverse_Phone?npa=905&phone=4652837 WirelessWizards, located at 2335 Trafalgar, Oakville, ON L6H 1A1, (905) 465-2837.
WirelessWizards are not a FIDO retailer in any way, shape, or form.
Microcell would deauthorize and take legal action against any authorized FIDO retailer who would take part in this type of behavior. No ifs, ands, or buts..

Deep - 23 Dec 2003 04:36 GMT Interesting... Woud they have any legal grounds against an authorized dealer for being invloved in a promotion with a competitor? I can't see where they would...

> Alrightie then! > [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > > > > heh.. it's almost Christmas and I don't feel like being negative. Steve Punter - 23 Apr 2004 18:12 GMT Contrary to what many people seem to believe, the BBB is not a consumer protection agency. They will only intervene if the company you complain about is a member of the BBB. If Telus isn't a member, there isn't anything the BBB can do for you.

Peter Karwowski - 23 Dec 2003 14:06 GMT You're right. Thank you for the clarification. I stand corrected.
I listened to the message again and it is indeed "Wireless Wizzards" not "wireless wave". I guess my anger clouded my vision.
(I definitely don't want to point an accusatory finger at an innocent party and thought it was only proper to acknowledge the clarification as soon as possible.)
