Sounds like your phone is locked, where did you get it from? TTYL

Cityphone *is* Fido. It is a package you can get from Fido.

Your handset must not only be GSM, but also 1900mhz, and more importantly not
locked to another network. In north america, the networks lock a phone to
accept only a sim card from their network in order to prevent the subsidy they
give from going to another network.
(eg: when you buy a $100 handset from network-A, network A may have spent $300
to subsidize the handset and it doesn't want you leaving A to go to B where A
could have to bear the cost of subsidy and B get your monthly revenus).

Oops. My mistake. The mention of "Vancouver" and "City" immediatly made me
think of Fido's new offering in Vancouver.

There are various "locks". I have a T18Z which was locked to Microcels
network. It would work with my old Fido SIM and my CityFone SIM. I
just got a new V60i through Fido and it won't work with my old
CityFone SIM. I guess they used to just lock them to the network, now
they lock them to the provider. However, unlocking is not that
expensive, over in England there were lots of places doing it for 10
pounds, pretty much what you'll pay here. It makes sense if you plan
on selling the phone or using it with a more economical pay-as-you-go
SIM overseas.

Nope. Cityphone is a *Microcell Connexions* network along with Simpro
and Sears. Fido is the principal Microcell brand that uses the
Microcell network.
