I'm using a Nokia 6160 Pay-as-you-Go with Rogers but it won't switch
to analogue in the boonies. Whenever there are only 1-2 signal bars, I
can't reliably communicate and the phone won't let me force Analogue
mode. I don't use it enough for a monthly plan, but worry about
coverage in an emergency while on back roads around Ottawa.

Any suggestions?

Larry

Bell Mobility. As for which phone, no idea, best to post to a group specific
to that company. TTYL

If you go with Bell Mobility, pick up a Nokia 3586i.  Excellent reception.
