radusam - 10 Dec 2003 21:21 GMT For almost 3 weeks now, I'm no longer able to send SMSes to Orange in Romania and TIM in Italy. I use to preffix each SMS with the "111" command, but all I receive (after 3 days) is ...status:EXPIRED. Could this be related to Fido, or is tehere something wrong with my phone? I used this service in the past 18 months and have had success with both sending and receiving (including these foreign networks). SMS still works fine on Fido network from my phone.
V. Nikolic - 11 Dec 2003 02:28 GMT Well, as long as you use standard GSM forma (+_countrycode_networkcode_number) you should be fine. I use overseas SMS all the time and have little problem. MAybe there is an issue with the overseas network you are sending messages to.

The problem is at the receiving end. Have you tried sending to a different cellular phone number? According to http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/roa_romr.shtml Fido and Orange in Romania are roaming partners, therefore SMS should work between the two.
TIM in Italy is also a roaming partner of Fido, http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/roa_romr.shtml
radusam - 11 Dec 2003 15:11 GMT I tried for several numbers on Orange and no success. I can send to Connex network, also in Romania. This is happening for 3 weeks now, before SMS worked fine both ways. I'm still able to receive SMS from Orange Romania. Could that be the "implementation" of the french model on romanian network (i.e. blocking SMS from foreign networks) ???

For example, T-Mobile UK is a roaming partner of Fido, but it's been confirmed that Fido for some reason is on their SMS blacklist. Go figure.

I think it's pathetic that I have to use yahoo or icq to send ppl messages because my freakin service provider, that I pay money to (unlike icq and yahoo), can't get it together to have their international sms's go through on so many networks.
repatch - 17 Dec 2003 22:36 GMT While I'm not the largest fan of Fido, to say that is USUALLY doesn't work is overexageration. But them, given your past behaviour I'm not too surprised...

SB - 17 Dec 2003 22:43 GMT Try sending to Egypt, on either carrier - 0 for I have no idea how many, but it's a lot of attempts. Australia, the occasional one goes through. ICQ - works all the time in both Countries (but only one of the carriers in Egypt is supported so far - dang). Gimme a break... it's pathetic that free web portals can manage to do what a supposed communications service provider (again, *that I pay for) is supposed to be able to do (but can't).

In my case it always work. SMS to and from Philippines and Singapore always works.
Pavel - 18 Dec 2003 04:58 GMT I sent an SMS to my cousin in Eastern Europe. Fido is a partner with them. It didn't work. I tried using the GPRS SMS and it was transmitted but an error message came back as being undeliverable. However, my cousin called me up and told me he did receive ONE SMS- GPRS but he was not able to reply back :-/

radusam - 12 Dec 2003 18:59 GMT Oh, thank you very much, I'll try this way ! How could I be so ignorant ?!?

The 111 is part of the SMS message to request a status report, is entered in the body of the SMS, and is separate from the phone number(SMS destination).

I didn't read the message properly. Anyway the point is I can send and receive messages to and from TIM so the problem must be the single recipient.
