<quote /unquote> Siemens manual.
The PIN is usually requested each time you turn on the phone.

My phone does not request a PIN and I don't want to risk
getting locked - has anyone set up the startup PIN request
on an M55?

TIA

Yes.  I took the chance and tried to add a PIN.  I was dumb.
Even tho it didn't ask for a PIN, I figured there must be one
so I put in some numbers that were maybes.  Just twice.
Then I stopped.

When I went to the flagship (Eaton's Centre Toronto) I asked
the tech guy to give me a PIN.  He took the sim out, put it
in his own phone and entered a PIN for me.  I think he did
that because he was more familiar with the menu in his
day-to-day phone.

he told me that 3436 (the last 4 digits in the FIDO phone
number) were the default PIN.  hmmm.  that's all I know.

Howdy,

My Montreal-bought M55 seems have been "PIN"ed "3436" as well.
PIN Control is off by default, or at least it was on mine.

Change PIN = Enter Current = 3436, enter new = Confirm New.
Active PIN Control = Enter PIN (New PIN).

Thanks!

There is PIN control and also phonelock code.  I tried to enter a
phonelock code and that buggered things up. I wanted to ensure that if
the phone was lost or stolen, it would be useless for anyone to use
it. After talking with Fido tech, I had two attempts left (tried one
myself and didnt want to go further).  He caused me to lock the phone.
I had to call Siemens.  They will contact me next me with a master
code.  I don't see anywhere there is even a master code prompt (not to
be confused with the PUK code).  I wish the manual was clearer.   :-(

i downloaded the manual earlier, it only mentioned that a code is to
be entered and what happens if you screw up.  it didnt go into detail
as how many characters nor did it show a screen.  that would've been
nice.   BTW, the
tiny url link is someone's Fed Ex tracer ;-)

Thanks to "frank-in-toronto", I managed to guesstimate the rest.
Aren't Cell's fun...

How the FedEx trace got in that URL is beyond me!
"Snip URL" was down at the time so I used the other.

A PIN is not necessarly needed when ever u turn on your cell, there are two
types of PIN there is one for voice mail, or to have acces to different
services over the phone with your cell company ( that s why they call it
acces code), this code is given by the cell company (usually when u first
activate your line by sending you a text message), however if you want to
have a PIN you have to do it on your cell...your cell company would help you
if u ask for help....
