3390 is not a DCT4 handset.

If you did a bit of research, you will see that the
3390 is a DCT3 phone and most of the free software
generators floating out there are for DCT4.
While a DCT3 generator does exist, the common ones
floating around only generates the code for lock #1.
Fido generally locks #1 and #2.
Everyone wants an easy solution with no work
involved :-).

How does one know if their phone is a DCT3 or 4? What does DCT short for?

Has anyone actually had any success unlocking the phone ?????
My phone was partially unlocked by Fido (one of the 2 codes provided worked).
So I figured I'd thry those "free" unlockers.
One site that required registration woudl lure me to the input form, wait for
the confirmation email etc etc, but then, no matter what I did, it woudl tell
me I need to register. (but elsewhere, it would confirm I am logged in). I
concluded it was a fake unlocking service designed to attract visitors.
I downloaded the software above. However, while it actually did seem to work,
when I actually pressed the "calculate unlock codes", nothing happened (seems
that the DCT4.EXE failed).
It is one thing to provide the appearance of a free unlocking, but another to
actually get working codes.
BTW, on a 6190,. the older pages mention only codes 1 to 4. But those unlock
pages provide codes to to 7 and suggest we use 7 or 5. But if I use "7", the
phone won't let me type in the final #. Last time I saw such a thing was when
Viger came back to eart and captain decker had to merge with Ilia in order to
enter the last digit to "complete" Viger's programming.

Yep, I unlocked my Rogers 3595 on the first try.
Did two of them.

6190 is DCT3. The unlock codes have less digits so
that is why you can't finish the sequence (not that
the codes from a DCT4 generator would have worked
anyways).
Word of advice to people: Read "the manual" before
using unlock software. That or pay $30 (or
whatever fee) to get someone else to do it for you.
And don't get pissed off if you find that GPRS does
not work on your phone because you cannot change the
settings :-).

Well, now you tell me. Most web pages include the 6100 series in the list of
supported DCT4 phones.

Yeah, Nokia use to have an easy numbering system
going but a year or two ago, they messed it up.
It doesn't help either that the guys who write
the software are in Europe and sometimes forget
to list GSM1900 versions :-).
Nokia 6100 series = Nokia 6100
Nokia 61xx = 6110, 6130, 6150, 6190
As a general rule, if your phone ends in 90,
it is a GSM1900 version of a phone that ends
in 10 (eg. 3590 -> 3510).
